Maat, and the table she kept setting.

Maat is a mother whose birthing journeys began in 1999 and found their last chapter in 2017 — seven arrivals, seven recoveries, and a long education in what a body asks for when the world has already turned toward the bassinet.
She learned, as so many mothers do, that celebration can be loud for the baby and thin for the woman who grew them. Meals arrived as afterthoughts. Wrapping traditions were whispered, not taught. Partners wanted to help and did not know where to stand.
The world celebrates the baby. We remember the mother.
Her First Meal is the house she wished had been lit for her: nourishment that respects culture and constraint, belly binding held as education rather than spectacle, a companion named Nouri who will not rush or diagnose, and a membership that treats postpartum as a season — not a discharge summary.
When we nourish mothers, we nourish generations.
